The last Gala was hosted by Broadcaster and Radio 2 DJ Vernon Kay, and was one of the first major events at the spectacular new Raffles Hotel London at The OWO. This historical landmark was the perfect setting for such an incredible evening where some of today’s most recognised artists, gallerists and celebrity talent gathered.
Opening Frieze London and staged in partnership with Christie’s, the Gala centred around an auction of artworks donated by leading artists including Jenny Holzer, Michael Armitage, Claire Tabouret, Erwin Wurm, Nicholas Hlobo, Stanley Whitney, Edmund de Waal and Jadé Fadojutimi. British designer Yinka Ilori exclusively designed the event invitation, as well as the tablecloths and stage to bring to life the colourful theme of the evening.
The event raised an incredible £2.6m for Make-A-Wish UK, enough to fund over 1000 wishes. The Live Auction was hosted by the wonderful Jussi Pylkkänen (pictured above), Global President of Christie’s.
The Gala was originally conceived by our founder, Batia Ofer, who wanted to bring together her love of art with her passion for helping others. Since 2017, Batia, supported by a Committee of incredible women (pictured above), have organised several events and Galas raising nearly £12m for Make-A-Wish UK — the charity which grants wishes for children living with a critical illness.
